well, I dont really want to ride with my lid off because I ride offroad 80% of the time, I just want to know which one is better for dust/dirt/mud performance or if they are practicaly the same b/c there is a price difference of about $30

i use k&n on my raptor 660. i wonder if it lets dust in. i just changed the oil and cleaned my air filter. i oiled it really well and placed it back on the bike. i run with my lid on in stock form. i don't have a pre filter on it. i noticed my oil lost its gold lustur when i got home from riding for 4 hours on trails that were dusty. is this normal or should i run a pre filter with the lid on the box also.

any opinions on this would be greatly appreciated.

as long as you oiled the filter properly you shouldnt have to worry about a thing if you have your lid on it would be good to get an outerwear also it will add more protection just incase anything was getting through and you can take off the lid

Uni all the way, my friends k&n clogs within a day on dusty trails. As for performance I still have not seen any difference really.

Never had any problems with my K&N with the outerwear of coarse. Water, trails, mud, dont really matter

I use the K&n with an outerwear, no lid, and you do have to clean your filter after a day of riding but that should be done anyways with any filter for optimal performance.
