Ride Report: Granite Falls, WA
#1
Well I had an awesome time riding in Granite Falls today. I rode my IT465 and brought along a friend who rode my 04 Wolverine. He had Zero experience on a quad so I spent some time teaching him some basics and then we hit the trails. I really have to say that the 465 is a nice trail machine. We did a few hill climbs. It handled them like cake. It really has a smooth ride and handles slow technical stuff like a pro. The engine will take Any gear you decide to use and just keep pulling. I pulled a couple of fourth gear wheelies from very low RPMs. In fact many times the hit comes on stronger than you expect even when you think that you are ready for it. It kind of reminds me of the turbo boost that KITT had on "Knightrider". This can make for some interesting moments. My friend did awesome for his first time on a quad. He really impressed me at how fast he picked it up. His only complaint was that I kept throwing rocks at him. Honestly, I really tried not to.
Anyway, the old IT performed admirably. I noticed that I'm going to need to replace the output shaft seal (it does do a nice job of keeping my chain oiled) and probably the base cylinder gasket. No big deal though. I just have to keep the oil level checked until I get around to the repairs.
The Wolverine worked great for a first time rider. My buddy gained confidence quickly on it, however, I doubt that he would get bored with it for quite some time due to the decent top end power and the sporty handling.
Just thought that I'd share,
Jason

Hi Bing,
I am from Louisiana but I've been working in the Seattle area for the last 3 years. The riding area at Granite Falls is really beautiful. I found a spot where I could actually see downtown Seattle from a trail. The Granite Falls trails are much nicer than Walker Valley up in Skagit. The main road/trail runs along a river for miles.
I currently live in Marysville.
The 465 is great fun but can be a handful. When I get back to Louisiana, I'm going to sell my 300 honda and get a used raptor. What is your opinion of your raptor?

concerning the raptor: I like pretty much every type of riding condition except extreme jumps and MX. I love riding wheelies, power slides, hill climbs, moderate jumps, fast fire roads, drag races, and the occasional mud hole. I do not like rough trails that are hard on my machines ie.. sharp rocks, deep rutted trails, or deep mud and water. This is because I value my machines and don't like to trash them. Back in Louisiana my family has a 400 acre farm. There are countless gravel/tarmac roads that I ride as well. My wolverine is going to be my wife's ride after I get rid of the 300. I really don't think there is even another bike to compare with the raptor. (I want reverse) I don't want a v-force and I don't want to buy a new predator.
As for Lousisana vs Washington. Usually I prefer Washington in the summer and Louisiana in the winter but this year is an exception. Louisiana is extremely hot! I tell folks to be sure and get the A/C option for your quad if you want to ride down there.

raptor sounds perfect for what you describe
only other bike i can think of is the z400,,,,you give up a little HP and gain a little on the handling
the 450r and yfz450 are more for the MX and jumping
raptor or z400,,,yep

I've noticed that about a few posts in here. Gotta look at the date lol. After a few years, many people leave this forum or at least aren't active members. So questions many times will never get answered.
