Default New Craycraft 730 ride report

finally got my motor back on friday (delayed due to Hinson 6-spring backorder). Assembly was a breeze, especially with Bob right at the phone if i needed him. Broke the craycraft cam in yesterday and broke the motor in today. I took it easy on it most of the day then had to see some of its potential this evening. All I can say is WOW! Gotta love that smile it brings to your face when racing the engine from 2nd - 5th gear with unbelievable power. Words cant describe the new power of this machine. Its a completely different beast in every aspect. The FCRs are unbelievable with throttle response and the more revs the engine has, the better it likes it. It makes power all the way to the rev limiter, which is 1000 rpm or more higher with the new dyna CDI.

If anyone plans on building an engine, my vote definitely goes to Bob Craycraft. He goes out of his way to help, knows his engines inside and out, and he built me a monster. Im sure there are several top notch builders out there, but Im 100% happy with my builder of choice.

This thing is crazy fast.

Thanks, it's costly but worth it in my opinion.

Can anyone tell me the purpose of advancing the timing with the dyna? Does it affect reliability?

Advanced timing gives the bike a little more low end, retarted timing puts more power up top.

As long as you are running the approprate octane, it shouldn't be a problem.

Ignition timing plays a huge role in how a motor runs (and not just for a performance point of view). It will effect fuel economy, ease of starting, the life of the motor, and the temperature in which a motor runs at. When combustion occurs it does not take place instantly. It requires a period of time. Depending on the RPM the power stroke can be .05 of a second at 1200 rpm to .0057 of a second at 10,500 rpm (strictly examples). Now even though the time for combustion at 1200 rpm is not much, it is still over 8 times what is available at 10,000 rpm.

The reason that this small amount of time is important is because the combustion process is not as much an explosion as it is a controlled burning. The time available for this controlled burning decreases as the rpm goes up. To compensate for this, the point where the spark occurs, to start the combustion process, must occur earlier.

Thanks for the responses, makes perfect sense BeechMan. The more aggressive curve, #3 i think, would be more strictly for drag racing? I really want this motor to last so I dont want to jeopardize reliability.
