Sluggish Raptor 660
#1
The motor on my Raptor is completely stock...no pipe, no intake mods....
I was on it today, it was about 60 degrees all day. So I would fire it up and idle for a little to warm it up like normal. Pushing the throttle in maybe 1/4 of an inch, revving the motor I suppose around 1000 to 1500 rpms above idle, right there seems to be a sluggish spot for the motor. If held there, it would eventually begin to miss or sputter occasionally. This went away for the most part after I had ridden it for 15 minutes but is still noticable.
The motor just doesn't seem to want to rev up very easily until after this point. If I give it more throttle right off the bat it doesn't seem to have much delay, just worries me some.
Sorry to write a book, just tried to get the problem across. I've got about 15-20 hours on the Raptor now, haven't had valves re-adjusted yet, if that could be it...?
Thanks guys

Go have your bike rejetted. I had the same problem but i then had motor work done to it. I think that with a pipe and jet kit you might be better. But I would definetly have it rejetted

What throttle position is this happening at? you might need to clean your carbs really good. mine used to do the same thing, and the gas inside my car bowls broke down and gunked everything up.

With 15-20 hours you should adjust the valves. I did mine with around 10 hours and the intakes were all different from each other. How's the plug look? How old is the gas in your tank? Ever clean your filter?
Could be lots of things. Good Luck!

Dirty carbs on an 04? Not unless it was stored in a barn for 6 months. I could see a malfuctioning or sticky carb, but not a dirty one. Float levels might be a good thing to check too.
Has it ever backfired on you? Have you checked your carb boots?
Dont use the throttle to warm it up, this is why the choke exists, just let it idle with the choke on. If the choke doesnt work then you need to change your pilots or maybe just adjust your a/f screws.

Well see it was an "04 holdover, I just bought it in December. So it most likely sat at one dealer or another's for most of a year, till I got my hands on it.
It will backfire occasionally, like when your in 4th or 5th wide open and let off the gas without grabbing the clutch.
I haven't had a chance to check it out, I'm in school and just was on it sunday for a bit, but noticed this going on. Unfortunately I'm not much of a motor man when it comes to a Raptor...Jetting is still a mystery to me, I haven't messed with it yet is all...
