Default IS engine to HOT

Ok might sound like a silly question but was riding today and splashed through some fairly deep water and it sizzled on the engine like a exhaust does if you spit on it. Ive never noticed it being that hot before. I checked plug to see if was running lean and it was fine. Oil was fine and seemed to be running ok. So is motor normally that hot or is something else wrong? Its a 01 warrior
