Default Oil for a 95 Kodiak

Hello....new guy here and I'm looking for some advice. I have a 95 Kodiak that I purchased 3 years ago and I need to do an oil change. I had it serviced at a local cycle shop last year but I don't want to give them what they charge to do it. My question is, what would be the best oil for this machine? It has 3900 miles on the odometer and it runs pretty good. Can I switch to a synthetic? Should I stick with a regular motor oil? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

On another note, my g/f just bought a 2004 Bruin from her son's friend because he was needing cash. Between her son and her, she gave 1800 for it. It's camo, has a Warn winch, selectable 4 wheel drive and auto tranny. The thing runs great and looks new. Can anyone give me info on this machine as far as the transmission? How reliable is the tranny?
Thanks.

The best oil for you would probably be Yamalube. It is expensive. I use Castrol in all our machines. 10w-40 in winter and 20w-50 in summer
