Doh! Raptor Starting Problems
#1
This one is my fault, I guess the Raptor is a little more sensitive to water than my Fourtrax 250R.
I just washed it today for the first time after riding it and getting it pretty dirty. I never directly sprayed the engine with water, I was for the most part spraying the plastic, suspension & swing arm, undercarriage, and trans area. But after I was done and I dried the quad off, I tried to fire it up and it didnt want to start. The fuel was on, I tried choke and after about 15 tries and giving it alot of gas it started. It wasnt quite running right either, I could definitely feel a miss as I was revving it. Also I never got the bike to idle on its own.
I used my compressor and an air hose attachment to blow off any excess water that may be in the engine area.
I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem after a wash?

Nope, and I've been through a fairly deep stream that I had to cross. I also wash everything with a water hose when I get back from riding. If it's there, I spray it.
The only thing that I've noticed is that if you use high pressure from the back side of the lights, you can get some moisture in them, but they're hot enough to burn it off if you ride with your lights on for just a moment.

Ok, well this morning I got a chance to start it up and it started just fine. There was a little hesitation but then I realize, dUH! turn the fuel on!
Anyways, it looks like the spark plug boot covers the hole that the plug sits in, if for some reason water getts in there you may have a problem like I did generating a spark.
