Im just doing lots of research on my 727 upcoming project. I have a few questions to ask about the 727 in general and all the goodies. here goes:

-What kind of ridng do you do
-What problems have you had
-Any complaints
-Any reccommendations

727 owners please reply to this and fill me in on everything. I plan i building up a 727 for just ripping around and trails and all that, i know its a bit over kill, but im going all out unless i hear a lot of bad things from your responses. Thanks a lot guys--Rider1169

-Mostly dunes with some desert rding as well
-One head gasket in two years(I've upgraded to oversize head studs since.)
-None
-Put the best parts you can afford in it, and you'll have the least amount of issues.

Thanks,

Yea im going all out with the parts, but no one kit. So a 727 will be good if properly cared for, for just rec riding? Also, if something happens and you have to rebuild the motor, are your screwed? Or worst comes to worst you replace the sleeve?

Also, what compression piston are you guys using on what gas? im looking for the highest comp i can go and still use 93 octane fuel. 11:1 is the highest so far ive heard, is that it?----Rider1169

I trail ride mostly with mine. Ive had it about a month with no problems. Im running a 10:1 piston and using 87 octane gas.

Drag race only, 300 - 660 feet, any terrain

Traction, torque wrench/sequence problem that caused a head gasket to leak (re-torque fixed it), thin wallet disease

No complaints whatsoever, my motor is a beast that was built to last at very high rpm

My recommendation is to call Craycraft Racing and purchase a low compression cruiser motor (10.5:1 Ross piston for 87 octane) with as many of the reliability options as you can afford (cryo, heat/friction coatings, oversize head bolts, 6 spring clutch, L&A one-way, etc.)

Yea i was going to do something about the clutch, ive been hearing good things about GYT-R's clutch kit. I will look into clutch springs also. So basically the word is, 11:1 is too high? Or will that be ok with just 93 octane, or is that just pushing the reliability?

Heres whats going in it:

-Local machineshop 727 bore
-LA sleeve 727
-10:1 or 11:1 piston (not sure on the brand)
-Wiseco Crankshaft
-Wiseco connecting rod
-Modded stock carbs
-HotCams stage 2 camsahft
-Kibblewhite titanium valvesprings
-Mild port job
-GYT-R Clutch kit
-and any other necessities like new one way starter bearing or w/e.

The parts i have going into this project are only a full HMF pipe, K&N pro-design filter basically.

Any reccomendations off of that^^^^ is greatly appriciated.---Thanks for the replies guys------Rider1169

if your not going all out with the porting and camshaft, I think I would prolly just build a hot 686........make the same power and save you some cash.......

What camshaft is better, well more aggressive than stage 2 from hotcams, and the port job, i forgot to mention, im going to be looking around soon, but a pretty nice port job, nothing insane, but something mild.

I think the Stage II is probably the best setup for a trail bike. For porting, I'd call all the big names(KENZ, Sparks, Craycraft), and see who you're most comfortable with.

There is places locally that will port the bike, im sure not near as well as craycraft or kenz, but im sure its all about the same? And i can get it done with no shippiong charges for 250, instead of 350 + shipping and waiting. But is it a lot better to just have the big names do it?----Rider1169
