Picked up an 87 Warrior Rolling chassis
#1
Hi. I recently picked up a 1987 Warrior rolling chassis. Actually the motor came with it, but it was taken apart and in a box. From the looks of things the piston and rings are blown and it may need to be honed or sleeved.
Any way I am trying to figure out what to do with it. Should I look into re-building the motor or just part it out/re-sell it and move on to something else? I'm not sure of the value, but the thing is impecable for it's age. Someone repainted the a-arms and swingarm silver, but the frame is awesome and the paint is original. The plastic, brakes and just about everything else is so clean. I feel really bad about ripping it apart it's just soo nice. I am a Honda guy, but this thing deserves way more respect than a part out.
Anyway what is the difference between the 87's as opposed to newer ones. Has much changed? Any good references as to the engine rebuild? Is there a shop manual somewhere that would help?
thanks for any help,
LM

The Warrior is a good candidate for putting a street bike motor in so you may want to look into that. There is a Warrior that i have seen at the Oregon dunes that has a 750 suzuki motor in it and although it is not the fastest it is faster than any stock quad you could buy today and with proper set up and tuning the Warrior with that motor could be a very good performer. The cost of the build i suggested would probably be less than properly fixing the old stock motor.

It's funny you mentioned that because I have and 83 Suzuki GS1100E motor that a friend of mine and I have joked about installing in it if it would fit. It would be heavy as hell, but I bet it would haul ***. The motor stock pushes close to 100 horsepower. Fabricating a 4 into 1 exhaust that would fit would be a real pain.

"if the motor will fit" is the big question. Set it in there and slide it around to see if you can get the sprocket to lign up while the motor is in a useable position. If not im sure you can find a used warrior motor pretty cheap, though the shipping my kill you.
