Is it OK to buy just the left side of a case, even though they are usually matched?

Just wondering because I cracked my left side and the two halves together will run me close to $500. I can lap both the surfaces if flush surfaces are an issue. My biggest concern would bolt hole alignment. What do you all think...Thanks

Flatness on each half of the cases is an easily machined, drawing callout on the cases and most likely a primary datum for this part. To really find out the answer to your question on whether the cases are interchangeable, it comes down to any matched-machined features between the two halves of the cases. The only way you are going to know this is to call yamaha technical support (if there is any for questions like this?) and get an answer the matched-machining question.
If there is matched machining for the bores, buy a full case and save yourself a bunch of money in the long run.
Let us know the answer if Yamaha gives it to you.
