If you want a little more respect from the people on the forum, you should chnage the title to "I smoked a kid on a YFZ." As you have stated, it's all about the rider, not the bike. You're on the right track though.

Yeah it was a sweet feeling shutting him up. I'm sure everyone hasa that one friend that never keeps his mouth shut. Now when he gets cocky i can just throw this incident in his face. Maybe if he worked to pay for his quad i wouldnt mind the bragging so much.

Next time...switch quads. He would have really been crying when you smoked him by 6 quads lengths on his own quad. Your weight could have been a factor too. not sure what the diffrence in weight in riders is. but when your dragging...it can help.

if this kid could'nt get some weight on those rears...well, you get it. anyways...switching rides addresses the rider vs quad argument.

sup Ge4x4? Nice mention in the ATVSport King quad article.

exrider, i really understand what you are saying, and dont take me the wrong way bro.. but you sound pretty bitter about this kid having a quad because "mommy and daddy" bought it for him.. so what? it doesnt matter if doug gust bought it for him, the only thing that matters is having that atv, and going out and enjoying the sport.. now i cant really say much of how you reacted, cause i wasnt there.. but it sounds like you are being as big of an *** as he was.. heck bro, even if this kid is a royal ***, just remind him (he sounds new to the sport) its all about just being out there, not about who is the fastest..

there are some kids that are just spoiled tho and their parents will go out and buy anything for them not knowing what it is. for example, my dad bought me and my brothers a blaster when we moved from CA to AR. my dad had riden motorcycles/ dirtbikes and other off road vehicals in his youth and he wanted to give us the same opportunity seeing as how he had soo much fun doing it as a kid. if my dad hadnt bought the blaster for me and my brothers i wouldnt have been saving up for an atv anyways. i wouldnt know how awesome it is! now since ive gotten into quads i know more than i ever did about keeping your things in good, usable condition, maintainance, engines (which i knew almost nothing about before), i have something to do and keep me busy... ive learned a lot and had more fun that i ever thought i could. its like its taken over my life. i only wish he was able to go out and ride with me. and no my dad doesnt buy modds for it. i would have to save my own money for that. anyone agree? i understand where the ppl are coming from who have worked hard for their quads and they will be more greatful for them and probably take better care of them that someone else. thats just the way it works when your work for your own stuff. so those ppl will benefit from their hard work by haveing a nice quad thats in good/ usable condition. but not to say that the ones who havent payed for their quads and learned how to take care of them wont be able to enjoy them as much... just as long as we do take care of them and dont take them for granted. thats all i have to say

Default KFX400 smoked a YFZ,

There's a lot of good points that have been said here. First, I want to agree, it is all about the rider in a race. You've gotta know your bike, and know how to ride to be an effective racer. Anyway, I also am one of those guys who works his butt off for his bikes. I'm a workaholic. I usually put about 55 to 60 hours in a week when I'm not in school. When I'm in school, it's between 20 and 30 (I remodel/build houses, so it's kinda daylight dependant). I'm a self-paying college student, and I love to ride. It really gets to me when I see some little kid out on the dunes riden the same $8000. bike that his parents bought him, that I have to work so hard for! But, I also know that when I'm a parent, if I'm able, I'll probably buy my kids bikes too! So it's a hard decision to make, and I'd venture to say that nobody can judge any parents, nor kids who buy/recieve bikes! Like that other guy said, at least they're out there, gettin into the sport. One thing that I'd say to you, is that talk is cheap, lead by example. Let this kid see the way that you act, how you don't talk smack (goodnatured joking is different), and that you're out there to have fun. If we want to have cool people to share the hobby with, we need to BE cool people! It's all about having fun. Anyway, I'm curious about this elgin riden spot you guys are talkin about. I used to live in LaGrande, and my dad still lives there. I live in eugene now, but if this place is worth it, I'll bring my bike over next itme I go there and hook up with you guys and chekc it out!
