2003 Beartracker clutch slipping
#1
HELP !!! Please...
I had a major engine crash, and rebuild the engine, now running as smooth as silk, BUT I used standard Mobil 10W40 Oil after rebuild. Now the clutch is slipping when I really torque it. I tried to dissassemble and clean the clutch plates with chemical cleaning. Helped a bit but not for long. Anybody have a clue about what could have happened? Some say that standard motor oil have zinc in it as additive for standard engines. My Beartracker have auto clutch with plates for start in any gear.
Brgds from Denmark(Europe) ;-)

If the oil says "energy conserving" on it, there are additives that reduce friction and will cause slipping in an auto clutch. Your best bet is to flush it out and use an oil approved for four stroke wet clutch use.
Hope this helps you, and welcome from across the ocean from America !!

I would use a good grade of motorcycle oil. Castrol make a good 4 stroke motorcycle oil with a SG service rating. You may need to change it a couple of times before it totally quits slipping. Others have reported this. Good luck and welcome to the forum!!!
Also, I forgot to mention Yamalube motor oil. It is availabe at your local Yamaha dealer and will also work fine too. But I prefer Castrol.
