First of all, a cardinal rule in making any adjustments on anything is to adjust only one thing at a time. You've changed the main jet & dropped the needle (altho I'm not sure why) at the same time, which leaves you out in left field in trying to find the problem.
Start by returning the jet needle to the 3rd position from the 5th position. This circuit controls your fuel flow from 1/4 to 3/4 throttle, just where you say the problem is.The 3rd position is nominal & is satisfactory in most cases. Then, do a test at the above throttle opening. I think you will see more performance there. If so, I would then do a test at 3/4 to full throttle (With a brand new plug), stop where you are without any idling & pull the plug to read it for proper main jetting. If it's too dark or black, you'll have to get the next size leaner main jet. Your needle jet would have little or no effect in trying to lean out the main jet.
If you have some doubt as to how to read your plug, I have a pic of a Split Fire from by ride I can send you if you email me.

nooo!! it was running rich before with the needle in the 2nd postition from the top which is where it was since ive had the quad. with the 260 iin it, it is running really rich so i tryed to lean it out by moving the needle up to the first position from the top . that helped a lil but not when i go up hills. so what im saying is would it be ok to go back down to a 240(leaning it out) and then puttin the needle at the 5th position form the top(which would richen it so i wouldnt have to worry about seizing it) because i think the 240 alone would be to lean
