Unless a plug chop is done properly, the color of the plug is meaningless. There are 4 circuits in the carb...any of which can be independantly rich or lean, from the other three circuits. You could have a very rich main or mid range, and be very lean in the idle circuit.
The best way to jet is by drivability symptoms...if you have no problems...its jetted correctly. A miss and stumbling and dieing, are signs of a lean circuit.
At what throttle opening was the trouble? That will tell you which circuit has the problem.
With all of the additives in todays gasoline, its very difficult , even for experienced riders to read plugs, the signs are very subtle. The procedure has to be followed exactly, for the plug chop to be of any meaning.
Try the choke, as you get to the part where it misses, ill bet it clears up ...i still think its lean.
