Default Raptor Air Box..

i've heard of taking the cap off, drilling holes in the top of the cap, or buying a bigger box to get some more power...Whats the real deal? Or maybe just buy a K&N?

Well the basic idea is to get more air into the engine. More air+more fuel=more power... then with more air going into the engine you need to get more air out, thats why most of the time when people are getting exhaust systems they also remove the air box lid, or drill holes in it. Basically i would guess that the determining factor for leaving the lid on or drilling holes in it is what kind of terrain you ride in. Taking the lid off is going to get your filter dirty faster, so just drilling holes in it will help a little, as well as get a little better air flow. I am going to leave my lid on even with a filter that doesn't require the lid to hold the filter in just to keep it cleaner. Hope that helps

With no lid, you'll want to stay out of the water.

Don't forget your going to have to rejet your carbs after this, becuase you increase the air, but leave the fuel the same so therefore run lean... Not good for the engine, lean mixture means hotter temperatures, you can damage stuff.

I run a pro-flow kit with a K&N w/outerwear
i run no airbox lid but i do run an outerwear airbox cover
it keeps the airbox clean a lot better than i thought it would

You might want to consider the EHS Racing lid kit. It allows you to get the same airflow as no lid while having the dirt protection of having a lid. Don't confuse this lid with filtered lids which drastically reduce airflow when used with a filter in the stock position. We now run these lids on every bike we own (including a 686 Rap, 2 grizzlies, a KFX400, and a V-Force).
