Raptor problems again
#1
Ok, i got the new sprockets and chain installed, now my dam starter is clunking and freewheeling. Yes I know this is common as it is the one way bearing deal. My problem and question is this, I AM NOT mechanically inclined and my Yammy dealership (only one in town) is booked solid till the second week in June, so my question is this . How long does it take normally from the time is starts going until it dies for good, because I will be damed if i let the quad sit in my yard and not drive it until the second week in June. I am gonna ride it daily until then. Will it get worse very quickly? Or is it a luck of the irish thing? Do I risk doing major damage? My buddy just had the work done at the dealer and it cost him close to 700 bucks, if i keep riding is it gonna cost me 1000 bucks ??
Thanks guys/gals

Don't ride any more....debree is floating around in your oil from the demise of the 1 way clutch. Get a 1 way from www.ripperracing.com and use raptortranny's guide.

well i am sure you will hear differently from everyone else
but from the first time my starter freewheeled it was like 2 months till it wouldnt catch and crank after the second or third attempt
i also only ride it on weekends at tracks and out of town
i prob only cranked it a few times here and there throughout the week
it finally went out last thanksgiving in little sahara
of course riding it every day will make it go out much faster
to my surprise my bearing just quit grabbing and was not destroyed like everyone elses
the spring was intact and in one piece it just quit engaging properly
right now i am waiting on a clutch hub since during snake hunt my magura clutch failed on me and caused me to melt my clutch trying to crawl it back to camp in the night time
it melted so bad that the friction plate farthest back turned all the way to metal and melted onto the inner hub
i was unable to remove the material left on the hub and like an idiot i put it back together with the bad inner hub and a new clutch
so then it was catching and jerking the back plate real bad causing the chain to jerk with the clutch pulled all the way in and i am now sitting here waiting forever for the new inner hub to come
i got the gyt-r one this time around it was supposed to be here monday but they shipped it ground by mistake and i will see it thursday
thats okay i have all weekend to fix it seeing as how we arent riding again until we go to durhamtown for memorial day
but anyways 700 bucks is a lot if you have tools i would suggest inclining yourself enough to try and do it yourself
the raptortranny guide is great help it took me about 2 hours to do it

WOW, I went out on it tonight and u would hardly know there was an issue, it clunked a little but then started up, no free wheeling at all. I may ride this out as long as I can , until I can truly afford to fix it.
