Default Mods for Kodiak

05' Kodiak 450 just bought and i am being told i should do this and that to it for the best performance. So hopefully you all can lend a hand.

First off I have 26" Mud Lites and have been considering putting the EPI Clutch Kit. Why, well I am concerned about compensating for the larger skins in the low/mid range for my hunting/dragging purposes. I have been told this mod will make a noticable difference and provide less wear on the clutches since I tow some pretty heavy loads. Yes/No/Maybe so

2nd is the performance kit - dynojet/k&n/etc. This one doesn't seem to offer me more to what I am concerned about. Top end or finishing first isn't even in the criteria for me. So other than throttle response will this mod do anything to my low end performance that is worth the investment.

3rd is gear head buddy keeps saying I need the HMF utility muff(especially if I go with number 2). His is loud and I don't want that being I'll be using my Kodiak for hunting and around the acreage.

These items are fair bit of cash so being top end ripping isn't my concern, would you suggest any mods or let her stand?

I feel like this is the first ATV I have ever owned, even though I have had one since the ATC's..lol.

Thanks

I wonder about the clutch kit too. I have 26" ITP 589's and I can power out in reverse quite easily. In forward low I have no problem spinning the tires but in some mud I can't turn the tires in reverse. Sorry I can't answer your question but I am curious for an answer also.

Have you tried the override button when you are in reverse?

Hey, what about 25" mud lite XL's. With the XL you get the deep tread like the 26" tires, but you dont have to worry about power loss because they are stock size.

Thanks for the replies.

So far what I have read and heard a clutch kit never hurts but still many are running the stocks with 26" tires(lites or similar). Still not sure however what I should do in regards to the EPI??

As far as the other mods, well I am sure I ain't going that route this year, if I find I need more I'll look at down the road.

Cobra, I already have the 26' lites installed (that was part of the deal when I picked up the kodi). So if I swap I'll end up forking out cash for the 25's so might as well use that towards the EPI clutch kit and then if I ever want more aggressive 26's I will not have to worry about turning them.
