Sputtering Wolverine
I have an 03 Wolverine. It has developed this off idel sputtering. The thing starts and idles great, but give it a little throttle and it cuts like it hit the rev limiter. The trouble started early on a ride. The carb has been torn down and cleand ( put back together and reinstalled) but did not fix the problem.
Any help would be appreciated.

Check the infamous parking brake switch.
On the Left Brake Lever assy., there are (2) brake cables...they are the (2) larger diameter black cables that are furthest forward from the handlebar. There are also two wire bundles that come from switches in the lever assy. The Top Most wire goes to the Parking Brake switch. This is notorious for acting up and causes the engine to miss as if the parking break is set. When the parking brake is set, this switch completes a path to ground, signaling the CDI unit that the parking brake is set. In an effort to keep us from smoking our rear pads, the CDI unit causes an intentional misfire to signal us that the parking brake is set (and also limits available power).
Even if the parking brake is NOT set, this switch is a known problem. To troubleshoot, follow the wire from the TopMost switch, down to where it makes a plug connection. It should have a Green/Yellow wire and a Black wire. Disconnect this plug and see if the problem goes away. If it does, you can leave it disconnected for good or till you decide to replace it.
This is just ONE possible cause. If this doesn't help, let us know and I'm sure others will be willing to help.
