Default starting noise on 97 warrior

i just bought a 1997 warrior and most of the time when im starting it is goes clunk. its not super loud buts its audiable. it also makes a similar noise when shutting it off it sounds like its coming from the shifter side of the engine. is this bad, can i continue to ride it like this,

and what do i have to do to fix it. or is it just normal.

thanks alot for replys

Mine does it to, and the only thing i could think is that its the starter. And i dont think its bad, it probably just the gear coming back into the starter making a noise.I wouldnt worry about it.

correct.. i am 99% sure that it is just the starter and w/e it engages with and where they mesh to start are just in different positions
