Thanks for the info. Helps asking people who actually know what they are talking about and not just salesmen trying to sell whatever they have in their store. Now I just gotta decide.... green? or yellow?

And when you say mostly trails and recreational, that as opposed to what? Racing right? It still should be a good quad in the dunes too right? Sorry for the lame questions, I just hate buying something and be disappointed with it. I'm trying to learn as much as I can about em before I buy.
Thanks.
Thanks.

I used to have a raptor 350 it was an ok quad but when i got with some of my friends with there Zs i just hated it because they were all faster then me.. So i decided to go get me a YFZ.. The YFZ has tons more power over the 350 and will eat the Zs up... But the Z does have its advatages too because it is alot smoother of a ride and it has reverse.. But if you are going to the dunes i would get the YFZ because they have quite a bit more power and advantages over the Z and KFX (which are the same exact bikes except differenct plastic)

I would look at the Z400 or the Raptor. Being 30 y/o and 190 you can handle the power of the Raptor, no problem. Just have to ease into it, being that you haven't had THAT much expierence on quads. The only difference between the Z400 and the KFX400 is the little scoop over the headlight. That and the colors. The 05 Z/KFX have the updated suspension, carb, and cam. They rip pretty good from what I have heard, and they are supposed to be good at everything, instead of being great at one thing. The YFZ is also a great quad and I have had some time on one. IMO, for an all around quad you cant beat the Raptor or the Z. If your leaning more towards dunes with a little trails, go with the Raptor, if its the other way around, go with the Z/KFX, just my opinion.

yeah, the z-400 would be ok in the dunes... but that is another place where the YFZ shines... that and the race track...
if you can handle a lil rougher ride in the trails and dont mind not having reverse... the yfz is what u need.

I don't see any reason why you couldn't handle the Raptor 660. Given your age, albeit I don't know you, there's some wisdom that comes with being 30! It's the first quad I've owned, the 2nd quad I ever rode. I'm 5"10 150 pounds, 29 years old. It's really nice knowing I've got torque in reserve for some of the nastier hills and tight trails. I haven't ridden a KFX or Z400 but i've heard good things about them too. It's just a shame spending money on a quad because you're concerned others have too much power. If you're really concerned, the raptor does have a throttle limiter screw and it's not something to be ashamed with
Good luck with whichever you choose.

Being a beginner, I would go with something that has reverse. That route will save you a bit of frustration in the beginning. The Raptor has received a HUGE upgrade, so if $$ is a factor, 05's should become pretty cheap in the next few months.
