Default Yamaha engine Identification

Hello,

I was wondering if someone out there could give me a little information. I just recently acquired a Yamaha ATV engine. It's a 4 stroke, air cooled engine, and has shaft drive and electric start. I was told it was a 250 with reverse but the guy I got it from wasn't sure the year or model it came from. It also has a lever on this side of the engine beside the cylinder(I'm guessing reverse?). The plastic side cover says "YAMAHA DUAL RANGE". The engine number on the crankcase is 52H-023592. It may not even be a 250 for all I know. I've searched the internet as well as Yamaha's website but can't come up with any information. Anyone know what I have?

Thanks

I might be wrong, so don't count on my info but it sounds like an old moto-4 engine. Search for pictures of those and see if it looks similar.

Wow,

Thanks for all the information! I'll probably give my local Yamaha dealer a call tomorrow and determine what this is once and for all. I went back to thier website and did some more checking and the closest I could come was an `85 YFM-200 which had a crankcase number starting with 52G. I don't know how thier numbering system works though, so I'm not sure if the crankcase part number and the engine code found on the crankcase are supposed to coincide or not. Anyway's I'll give my dealer a call tomorrow.

BTW, my engine looks like this one on E-Bay.

Thanks again,

Nate
