RAPTOR OWNERS...USE A BREATHER FILTER!
#1
This subject has been brought up before. If you guys want to get a scare, remove the breather tube from the intake snorkel and shine a flashlight down it. You will see that your wonderful Raptor motor has been injesting dirt/sand or whatever. (inside of the hose will be coated with crud) This engine creates a huge discharge/suction pulse that WILL pull contaminated air into the crankcase. Remember the guy that posted that his engine failed and the dealer found evidence of silica in the motor oil? How do you figure it got in there? I don't know why Yamaha overlooked this problem, but I'm just glad I caught it after only 5 hrs. of operation of my motor! I am rerouting the hose and putting on a breather filter, asap! K&N makes a nice filter that slips right into the hose and will solve the problem. Hope this helps all of you avoid unnecessary grief with damaged motors.

The Warrior is designed the same way. I put a k&n breather on mine. $9.00 at checker auto. Just my $.02..... All of you raptor owners need to call your dealer and/or yamaha to complain about this design flaw. If the wheel doesn't squeek, it doesn't get fixed! Zebratrailer can tell you who and where to call at Yamaha.

I think every ATV ive known to have looked over did not have a filter on it and had an open hose, I assume its not as big a problem as you guys think. The main concern is that you should change out the oil very often anyways, but if your sucking sand thats a different problem, Usually the crank case vent is just that, a vent of the lowerend. But to be safe just stretch some fine filter material over the hose and zip tie it or clamp it.
