Grizzly 660 (2002) "chugs" when in reverse...help!
I recently purchased a Grizzly 2002 to drag my horse arena. It's been fine so far, but today...problems!
- When I put it in reverse it "chugs" (both in 4WD and 2WD)
-My speedometer registers 10-15 mph even when I'm not moving
-I don't think it's popping into 4WD even tho the differential indicator shows on the digital display
-It won't start without a jump...but I ordered a battery so I'm not too worried about that
This is my 1st ATV...where should I begin so I can troubleshoot this monster and/or fix it? (Or get it worked on & not get -I hate to say it- ripped off.)
Thanks...Catie

The Grizzlys have a "reverse limiter." This prevents you from going to fast in reverse and losing control. (It sounds like it's chugging) I have a 2004 Grizzly and it does the same thing. I have read that there are a couple of ways to override this feature, but I don't have any reason to go fast in reverse.
Does your speedometer register 10-15 mph in reverse or when going forward. I don't know why it's doing that...

Hi Grizz,
The speedometer registers 10-15 when I'm in a forward gear and not moving, but I hadn't noticed if it did the same thing in reverse.
If the limiting feature for slowing down an attempt to reverse at fast speeds is why we're chugging, then it sounds like this machine thinks I'm going faster than I really am...because I move at a very slow speed in reverse. So, it sounds like something is spinning at a faster rate than it's supposed to.
I am going to buy a manual & keep asking around. If you have any additional ideas I would welcome them!
Thanks so much...

If I was you I would wait till you have replaced the battery and see if that takes care of it. With all the electronics on the Grizzly if you were not getting enough voltage it may be causing your problems. At least that way if it is the battery you wont have wasted a bunch of time.
