You must be refering to the age vs. cc rules right. Well i have to agree with ya, 16 years old for 90 cc and above is a little extreme. Course it does have to depend on the rider. I really think they are not laws but recomendations so the manufactuers cover their butts by law.

Well it's not like anyone follows them anyway, unless your going into a competition of course (sucks ), I'm a safe rider...I follow all the laws and rules when I'm on the street and on trails...except the age limit law...16+ for 90cc and up, isn't a little extreme...It's hardcore....is it truely a law or is it a recomendation? Anyone actually know? Oh well though...one more year of "illegal" riding won't hurt.

My opinion. I believe the rules may be close, but need major revisions to be right. First off, I don't believe we would have near all of the problems if the manufactors would have never introduced auto quads. The reason being, is it allows many people, not just kids, that really don't have any business riding, a atv that is basicly gas and go. No other instructions required to get the machine moving. At least an auto clutch requires some shifting which requires some rider input. Now before the bashing starts, I do own an auto atv and I do like it, but, my point is, my 9 year old can start it up and be gone in a heart beat. Why havn't motorcycles had the same problem? Could be that its not nearly as easy to jump on one and go. Therefore not everyone can or will try to ride one.
The second problem with the whole age limit is most kids are to big for the cc's they are allowed. I have a 11 year old that meets most states fit requirment to ride a Raptor. So I'm supposed to put him on a 70? I don't think so. But at the same time, he started riding at an early age. (6 to be exact) And he is now riding a modded 300ex and has been cleared to race in that class at our local tracks. The rules, which by the way are NOT the laws in all areas and on closed coarse racing does not come into play according to the AMA, needs to allow for bigger, or more exspirenced riders. Not all kids are ready to ride bigger machines. and some may not ever be ready!! But why pealize those that are? It should be left up to the adult in charge of them, but then they should be held accountable with no way of sueing someone else for their stupidness!!
Theres no way of making age limits with out problems. Not everone that is 16 can drive!! And being 45 doesn't make them a better driver either!! But there are some 16 year olds that are much better drivers than ALOT of 45 year olds!! So how can they tell me my 9 year old can't shift the gears on his Blaster or hadle it through the woods when no one from the goverenment has ever seen him ride?
I know I'm breaking the rules and what ever happens, I'll bear the blame!! We can't ride on public land, but truthfully thats not a big deal to us. If a perant is with a child when riding, and they are on a quad they prove they can control, I believe they should be allowed to ride. Bottom line is too many parents are NOT with their kids, and problems happen. And the news, government and anti-atvist will jump on that and run like wildfire!!

Yeah obviously it's jsut put on their in case something happens. In the past companies were getting sued because their children were getting injured or killed. So then they put this in place. Obviously a 16 year old isn't going to be riding a 90, and the ATV companies know htis, its just to save their butts, and nothing will ever change.

I've been riding quads since i was 10 (18 now) and you just can't go crazy, build up your skills and you'll be fine. I sure didn't want a Kodiak 400 falling on me when i was 10.

asfasasu3 i agree with u 100%. You have stupid kids go on them that suck at riding and get hurt. This then creates liability issues for the manufactures. It is isane to think of someone my size riding a 90. It's more dangerous in my oppinion. The handling on smaller machines with my weight is devastating and scary. I feel much more comfortable on a full-size machine that I can handle fine. I am as big as most adults anyway but i do not have ADD and use good judgement

i geuss i am also just pissed because wenever me and my friend are talking about quads his dad always says "ur quad is too powerful for u" and he's never seen me ride. Everyone is different and it is a stereotype that all kids are irresponsible and have impulsive decision making. The whole system is bs.
