2001 wolverine sputters
#1
My 2001 Wolverine is sputtering when you put it a little past half throttle. i dont know what it is. I went for a ride and towards the end i was ryding in a field when it began to sputter. It runs fine below half throttle but once it reaches a certain RPM it sputters and almost stalls.
Does anybody have any ideas or Expierence. I think it is either the spark plug or the fuel. I check the airbox and it is fine. It seems to me as though somthing might be deprved and when it reachees a certain need there isn't enough to keep it going.

Its been my experience that Yamaha jets its atv`s 1 main jet size too rich. It saves them money on engine warranty claims. My 95 had a recall here in California, to drop the main jet 1 size. I dropped it another size to a 142.5, and it ran great. Also clean them air filters
Hope this helps...

Hey, I don't understand why it would run perfecty fine from augest to october and then have a jetting problem. I thought it was the spark plug, the carb or somthing else. i already checked the air filter and it is really clean there is nothing obstructing it's path either. do you have any other ideas

Well lets see...
How old is the fuel? Also I have seen several times on these carbs, A piece of sand can make its way up the vent tube and get stuck in the main jet. They dont run good at all when that happens

hey my wolv ahd those same symptoms and i finally figured out that my parking brake had been stuck somehow even though the lever thing wasnt engaged. have you ever tried ridding it with the parkin brake on before? same thing happens. i guess its some kind of safety feature that makes the engine run improperly with the parking brake on. so when mine got stuck somehow it wasnt runnin right but there was no way i could tell. maybe thats your problem.

That's exactly what I was going to say.
It may sound stupid, but that's exactly what happened to me. I couldn't do anything with the bike, it would cough and sputter....finally , like an idiot I checked the Park brake..it was left on some how????!!!
I took it off,and everything was back to normal..of course I had already changed plugs, checked air filter, throttle screw, choke etc..
I couldn't believe it..
Just look at that for kicks

I had the same problem with my wolverine. It turned out to be small plastic chips from the gas tank. The dealer said that they have occasionally had the same problem with other atv's. The chips are the result of the machining on the plastic tank, and they end up in the bowl.
Since then I've installed a fuel filter and haven't experienced any more problems.
BTW - the dealer said that if the problem comes up again, they will continue to do the work under warranty even if it's over.
