Default Sidewall Tear

I posted this on the tires forum but it's not as busy as this forum. I have a small rip in the sidewall of my rear tire. The rip is about 1.5 inches long and about .25 inches at the deepest spot. It does not leak any air but I want to fix this rip, what can I use? I was thinking about using black silicone. Is there some way to fix it without removing the tire from the rim? Will some kind of glue work or is there some way to melt it back together? How thick is the sidewall on these 589's, I can't see any cords so I guess it's not that deep.

It's all up to you but if it's not leaking, I wouldn't worry about it. I think anything else that you try to seal it with will either look like crap or not do what you are wanting to accomplish. If it does start leaking, I put some "fix-a-flat" or equivalent and laided my tire tear down and it sealed it. That was back in 2000 and I haven't had a problem out of it.
