does it make a big difference for the raptor?
#1
I have a white brothers e series pipe with a jet kit and i thought that to match it i should get an aftermarket filter because the raptor has a supposibly "restricted" intake. I was looking at http://www.ripperracing.com/mall/cat...php?cPath=1_17 and saw a pro design pro flow air filter. Do I have to run this filter without the airbox because I ride in muddy conditions sometimes and i do not want to have to clean the filter everytime i go somewhere. Has anyone just cut holes in the sirbox or something like that. Also is a foam filter better than a k&N. What type of difference does this make and would it be good money spent. Thanks

Yea man i am thinkin the same thing.I want to know if i have to rejet my carb if i get a k&n filter.I also want to know how those k&n airbox lids work.Do they provide a lot more power like really noticable, or do they give just enough for you to notice it?I am also wondering what would be better, gytr filter w/billet adaptor or k&n.I will probably settle with k&n because it is just so much less money. Thanks for any help.

Thats what is so great about the Pro-Flow. You can use it either way. With or without the lid. Also the K&N that comes with the Pro-Flow is bigger than the K&N drop in filter for the stock Rappy which is even better air flow.
Personally, I wouldn't even mess with the K&N powerlid or whatever its called. Just take the lid off and use an outerwares on the K&N (it comes with the Pro-Flow).

i just got the power lid for my raptor you can tell a difference from stock that is for sure i also got the pro flow kit and yes it does require a jet kit. i got the dyno jet stage two cause when i brought it into the dealership to be jetted they said the stock needles are too small so plan on spending an extra 90 bucks if ur bringing it in

also people say that the kn lets more air thru the filter and also that it doesnt catch as much dirt and such as the foam but i figure if u get the clamp on kit ur safe and if ur running the outerwears ur fine the foam one is supposed to be better for wet conditions like mud and wet trails so if ur plannin on doin alota that its probably ur better bet. you can also instal the pro flow kit with the air box lid thats what it calls for in the instructions it just says to trim stuff out so it will fit and you will also have to cut out the flap inside the snorkle but if ur running no lid or the power lid you will have to buy a crankcase filter

The power increase wont be that much, it will be enough to be notice though. The Pro-Design will need some drilling, but it works fine. For muddy conditions a foam filter works best, but for dirt conditions you will be beter off with the K & N. You could run it with or without the lid, depends on you. You may have to rejet since your engine will be breathing better.

Guy's here is the best hook-up with a raptor. First of all if you bought the power up kit nice job, the K&N with the outerwear and billet adapter is nice. Follow the instructions to the T. Throw away the Dynojet kit as it is not a good system when fine tuning your carbs, use Kehin jets and you dealer can recommend jetting based on your elevation. You may want to replace the pilot jets as well. Last DO NOT throw away or run without the lid. This dual carb system can only truly be dialed in by using the lid as this lid helps with vacuum pressure. What you can do is cut off the bottom portion of the top of the lid from the back of the second clip on. You will then have a very good air/fuel mixture ratio. I have run the open lid and small round crankcase filter combo and you will lose power. As the carbs won't run correctly. Yes it will run but I'll bet you end up with two different scenarios. A lot of backfire because of running lean, or running to rich to over compensate for all the back fire. Foam filters are fine also. That's my two cent's if you want them! Good luck!

alright guys i think im going to go with the foam filter because i do ride it wet and muddy conditions sometimes and I don't want to rick having debri enter the carbs because that would truly be a PITA. I am going to talk to this guy I know about cutting the airbox a little bit and rejetting the carb. It appears the only way air would enter the airbox is through those two little snorkles. I think the main thing is cutting in the right spot on the airbox so maximum air willl flow but dirt will not come in. I will also proboly get outterwears.

Cutting the airbox is really no big deal you can do a search either on here or on google or something and it will show you exactly where to cut and if you use a dremmel tool or some kinda hand held grinder its a breeze. but just make sure you dont go to put on the filters and stuff without being able to jet it right away otherwise you wont be able to ride till you get it done.
