Timberwolf 250 clutch problems?
#1
I just bought a used timberwolf from my little brother, He told me it has a new clutch? When I first put it in gear I have to hold the throttle open for a few minutes then it finally grabs and goes? What can this be? maybe installed wrong?

There are two clutches...the centrifical and the clutch pack. Sounds like the centrifical clutch is either put together wrong, ot the wrong oil is in there.
Was it working when it was sold to you?

How complicated is it to fix? I'm just wondering if I might be able to do it myself? or if I would be better off to take it to a shop? where are the clutches anyway

As honda bustersaid there is two clutch's there a series of clutch plates which normaly goes fiber metal fiber metal etc; and the you have the centrifugal and the centrifugal is the clutch that engages when you hit the gas so the problem is here and it is fairly easy to put in should be on big nut take it off and slide it out the lil hub it rides inside of slide the new one up on the spline tighten down the nut put your cover back on the clutches are the the right side when ur sitting on the atv. I personaly say go for it as i said its fairly easy im not sure what year you wolf is but im 100%sure all the timberwolf/beartacker motors are the same the part u need cost$138.63 and you will not beat this price its at www.bikebandit.com there great people FAST SHIPPING AND PRICES THAT MOST CANT TOUCH! the part number is # 5 go to the website and go to oem parts put the year of your atv and make and model then go to clutch on the rite side click it and it show's you a schematic of parts check it out if i can further assist you pm me or write me on aol xtaceice@aol.com i would deff fix the wolf i had a 96 it was a great atv had sum good times on her till she got stole only thing crappy bout em is the brakes lol

Thanx a bunch I'll start butterin' up the wife for 138 bucks I have another question? might or might not have anything to do with the clutch? Yesterday my 4 kids were standing in line to ride the timberwolf fighting over whose turn it is as usual! I notice the 4-wheeler isn't idling right? It's running about half throttle? I shut it off, It was really hot! My oldest boy looked like he had a sunburn on the inside of his legs from riding it! It has no muffler, just a straight pipe with one of those chrome echo tips welded on it. Can this be whats making it run so hot? And can all this heat be what's ailing the clutch?

SO what your saying is its idel'ing high? if so there a scre on side of the carb pretty big crank your wolf turn the screw you can turn it with your fingers shouldnt take much turn it counter/clock wise untill it sounds rite and yes the heat will kill a clutch!!! an i think ya might want to purchase a pipe this could cause it to run lean which will!!! make it run hot jus go to www.rockymountain.com an check out some silencers.

It idles just fine normally, I think it was just cause it was so hot making it idle high? When I shut it off I could hear somthing boiling? The gas in the carb? is my guess???
