Gary600r and bash:

How much time in hours do you guys think you put in on your Raptors?

I am about 8-10 hours into my break in period, and I have 10 more to go, as soon as I am done with it I am going straight to the dealer and getting the valves adjusted.

Everyone needs to keep in mind that the Raptor is the Banshee of 4-strokes. Compared to a TRX250R, the Banshee is somewhat a high maintenance bike that if not properly kept it can start to have problems. Hondas have always been known for being bullet-proof but not having the most horsepower (ATV-wise). The 400ex is pretty much a maintanence free bike, but the Raptor being a much more advanced motor is something that needs to be taken care of routinely.

I've probably got about 8 hours or so on the engine with no valve adjustments yet.

Mine Raptor blew the carbs out of the boots too, about two weeks ago. It was starting to back fire alot, when the weather was real cold. It would quit after about 10 minutes when the engine got real warm. After I got my valves adjusted last week, it has not done it since, but the weather has also been warmer, i will have to wait and see when it gets cold again.

I also beleive my Raptor is running lean.Sometimes when I slapp the throttle it has a slight hesatation.Im not sure if it only happens when im running low on gas which would explain why this is happening??Has anyone else had this happen.I think I have over 20 hours now and still have to have my valves ajusted but would like to do them myself.Does anyone no if the raptor repair manual is available yet?Other than that the machine is GREAT.For trail riding I highly sugest the 12 tooth front sprocket.I run a 12 front and a 42 rear and its perfect.

Everyone watch your boots so they do not crack...On my Bombardier DS650 the carb seemed to pop off every now and again and with tightening of the boot to keep it in place, it split (at the dealer after warranty work). Adjusting the valves seems to help quite a bit, mine still backfires some though.

Thank You Mr. DS owner,
For a non bashing heads up on the DS. If more people would post useful info about there machines we could solve these problems much quicker!

x250rdude,

When you put the 42 on the rear did you have to change or modify the skidplate. On mine it looks awfully tight to try a 42 rear sprocket with stock skids.

From what I have been reading the problem seems to be a combination of cold weather and the valves not being adjusted after the 20 hour break-in period.

Thank god I will wont ever have to ride in weather that goes below 70 degrees! Man, do I love Glamis!
