Default Raptor 250 or Trx250x

I was looking at 2 atvs for my son who is 11 but is tall for his age, i dont know what i should get either a raptor 250 or a trx250x they both have good reviews and the kind of trails we ride on are sort of rough and i want the most smooth one that will do jumps and last a long time. Which One?

Which 250x are we talking about? The manual shift one from the mid 80s early 90s or the current production auto shift shaft drive model?

Initially, the auto shift will be easier to master. Long term, the chain drive, better suspension, and better upgrade options will make the Raptor more viable. 11 may be a little young for either, what about the Raptor 125?

The Honda trx250x with a manual. We looked at a 125 and it was to small and 250 us the next one up that will last a while because I can ride it too so I think 250 because he is 5'7 unless there is a size bigger than a 125 but not as big as a can am 250

The Raptor 125 is the exact same frame as the 250, just slightly smaller tires. The new 250x are shaft driven and have the sport clutch actually. It can work as an auto or manual. If you are going 250 and want long term, the chain drive quads are going to have more hop up potential.

the older (87-88 91-92) 250x has kick start also and I don't see a 11 year old having fun with that. for some reason though something tells me you are looking at the newer 250x with what Honda calls sport clutch, which allows the use of a clutch, but no stalling. me personally being experienced and kinda big for a raptor 250, id go with a older 250x or its mechanicaly identical cousin the 300ex. why not look at some used 300ex's?
