Default 11:1 and stage 2 cam

Hey. Im thinking about installing a 102mm 686CC piston and a cam for my rappy. i want to gain more top-end, the raptor allready has plenty of low-end to satisfy me. I was thinking about a Stage 2 cam, but i dont have the $$$ to upgrade the springs... anyone ever install one with out springs??? Need to know. or, a better cam then the hotcam, at the same/close price that adds more mid-top end power? I dont want to install a stage 1 because i dont think it will provide the uummpph im looking for in the top-end, plus the 686cc needs some more fuel. thanks!

Save your money...and get the springs and retainers....that cam will "float" the valves and with high comp piston you run a good chance of "dinking" the piston

ya know what I mean Vern????

Change the springs and the rod, if you don't, you're asking for trouble.

Save your money and do the complete job once, I had the stage 1 then the stage 2 hotcam and you will love the 2 for top end. You should get the head ported and springs fitted at the same time and dont ignore the rod(I did and it costs a lot more $$ to fix later) and then you will love your 686. Meanwhile enjoy what you have now and do the lot later!!

I would love to see someone breakdown the cost on this topic. I have looked into this a bit and read that there is mild and wild 686's. So a wild one how much? I.E. machining xx$ can people other than well known builders put together a wild one? I will probably post it one day but thought that this might be a good thread to ask these questions. thanks.

If I was building my motor, I'd take it semi wild, (a nice comfortable spot between mild and wild) and expect to pay $3,000 for the motor work plus clutch work.

YOUCH !!!!!! I can rebuild the motor in my truck for less than that. Where is all the money eaten up at? I guess that would be why people stop at exhausts and air intakes hey? Well I'd like to do somthing to give myself the competitive edge but my toy budget isn't that big, any ideas?
