Default '04 YFZ450 for $4600 or wait for new '06 at MSRP?

OK, I really like the new YFZ and thinking about making room next to my two 2-strokers. My dealer has a used '04 in really good shape for $4600...$4932 out the door (we negotiated down from $5000). Or I'm tempted to wait for this all new '06 and do some extra financing at higher price...probably around $7200 I'm guessing.

What do ya all think?? I know the new '06 will be a lot better than the current model with more power and better tuned suspension but is it gonna be THAT much better. I'm torn. I trail ride so one side of me says take the '04 but the thought of that brand new improved quad is tempting.

Is it worth the extra $2500-2800 out the door price??

You like to trail ride, that says it all. Wait for the 06 models. They're going to be much softer, comfortable and a bit more power for you to handle. Good luck!

Can't the 04 shocks be tuned to the 06 specs or are they totally different?

Yes they are tunable, but there is just something different in the 06 models suspension that is going to make the ride softer. Another thing is the seat, there's many people that complain about the seat and it's mostly trail riders, so that's going to make a difference. it's now going to be a true 450, and many other little things that will make it better.

you find the stock seat uncomfortable? I guess I can't really tell from sitting on one at the dealer.

Well in a way yeah it's uncomfortable. Specially when you're riding for along time or racing. But that doesn't really bother me at all.

I can tell from sitting on one at the dealer, the seat is hard, you have to reach forward and it feels small, of course that's just sitting on it at the dealer, I've ridden one in the dunes and it felt alot different, probably because I wasn't concentrating on what it felt like, was more concerned with the power and the supension. Everything always feels different once you get it out on the trails or sand and start riding.

Oh, I forgot to mention one thing, I'd put out the extra dollars and get an 06, no doubt.

i have an 05 and do nothing but trail ride and i find it to be suited quite well for trails. sometimes i wish i wouldve waited for the 06 just for the higher bars because im kinda tall but i wouldnt trade it for anything in the trails. in my opinion it does better than my firends 450r and 400ex. i love it
