Default Raptor missfiring (660)

I just bought a leftover 2004 LE for $5,000 OTD. I have about 3 hours on it (still break in) However I recently noticed that when I hold the throttle in just a slight amount it sounds like its puttering, skipping a bit, but if I ease into the throttle just the slightest bit more it wings up the RPM's like there is no problem at all. I checked the plug and after 3 hours a use there was just a bit of carbon and a slight whiteish hue but it seemed fine. Does anyone have any ideas what may cause this? Is it even a big deal seeing that it idle's fine and very rarily gets operated with the amount of throttle pressure I'm talking about here? Thanks for anything!

Sounds like a bit of a lean condition. Is there anything done to this machine? exhaust or airbox? where abouts in the throttle range does it stumble?

if the quad is not up to operating temp they stumble in the low Rpms.

mine did the exact same thing when i first got it, my mechanic changed out my pilot jets and it was good to go. does it also give a slight backfire/sputter when letting off the gas and decelerating?

This bike is fresh out of the box and has absolutley No mods done to it. It stumbles at the lowest possible throttle position and then kicks right up with no problem. I'm taking it out tomorow for the rest of the break-in and then after I'll check to see if it's still there.

Its your mixture screws. Most new Raptors I've ridden do this. Turn both screws out to 2 3/4 turns. That should do it...............
Oh yeah, the fun part is you have to remove the carbs to do this.

with only 3 hours on it I would take it back to the dealer and have them look at it shouldn't cost you anything. The spark plug should have a brownish tint to it, if it doesn't then you will need the carbs adjusted like mentioned above. Good luck and Congrats on the new ride...

My rappy does the same thing. It has always sputtered on deceleration, but it only started skipping on acceleration not to long ago. It's an 03 with quiet a few mods. I don't think I'll let it bother me, the riding seasons almost done up here, and schools starts soon. I'll just ride it out .

Take it back to the dealer unless you plan on removing half of you parts on you bike just to remove your carb? It should be honored as a new quad glitch. The carb probably just wasn't adjusted right and is running very lean (this bike comes way under jetted from the factory) and you'll probably want to adjust it anyway. Just a thought! Are you reving it while sitting there at idle with the parking brake on, as this will cause the same symptons while cold also?
