most automatic transmissions in cars will go all the way to redline before they shift if the throttle is pinned, or you could do the 1,2,D,OD thing to shift and hold the gears. It's not all that likely that you're going to blow your motor just by holding it at redline. I've had my escort revved past the 7000rpm redline bouncing off the rev limiter doing burnouts for 15 seconds at a time and it still runs like new. Blowing a motor in a car is pretty hard to do unless something in it is already messed up or worn out. That was a sort of a CAPTAIN OBVIOUS statement with replacing a blown motor too.

I think your trying to ask me why cant you hold it at the redline. The answer is because the engine works to hard when the revs go up, the engine works harder and moves faster, but the gear your on doesnt let u go faster, thats you shift up, and if your on your last gear, DOWNSHIFT!!

If you were in a street drag race, and you hit your last gear while there is still a long ways to go, u slow down and and downshift, because if u kept it on redline for a long time, ull blow ur engine. i didnt say downshift while ur still on the gas, slow down then downshfit cuz thats the fastest you can go.

why downshift? the fastest gear is the highest gear. I doubt anybody is going to redline in high gear either. Gearing in any car I know of is high enough that you'll never get going fast enough to redline in high gear. My escort gt is geared low(3000rpm 5th gear 60 mph) and it is geared high enough still that the car would have to go over 140 before it redlined. If you were in high gear and redlined you should just back off the throttle and leave it in high gear. I really don't understand what benefit you find from downshifting. that would make the motor rev higher, and slow you down more.

your right, you dont have to downshift. From your point of veiw, you would just slow down after your maxed. For me, I would slow down and then down shift, keeping it on the right gear. whatever wat works.
