Default Any one know anything about a 1989 yamaha moto-4??

hi, im looking at a moto-4. The guy says it is in very good shape. It needs nothing. It only has a few tears in the seat. Tires are good. It is 350cc's. I was wondering if this is a good quality quad and do they get good traction being only 2-wheel drive? Thanks.

If you are looking at a "bulky" quad, hold off for a 4wd.

Traction with 2wd will depend on your weight and the type of tire for the terrain. If they are maintained, the old Moto-4's will run for ever. A fellow I know has an 87 Big Bear (moto4) and has only rebuilt the top end once (last year). I had an 87 Warrior a few years ago. It was not maintained and I had to do a lot of work on it to make it trail worthy.

This is true. The top is on those things are what Yamaha has been using for years.

$1,000 for a 2wd 1989 ATV seems a little steep. I picked up my 2000 wolverine a few years ago for $2,000. You should be able to find an older 4wd for about $1,000. IMHO I would not waste my cash on a 2wd, but that is just me

If i was you i would buy the moto 4 350. I have a moto 4 225 and i have never had a problem with it. They are buit like tanks. You asked about traction. You can put any atv tire you can thinks of on it. I have put 29.5 highlifters on my 225 and it turned them just as east as they turned my 26 -12 mudlites. I go through mud and climb logs with me and my grilfriend on the back. I weight 235 and im 6 foot 4 my girlfriend weights 150 and she 5 foot 6. I pull my dads bass boat in and out of the water. You mat think the moto 4 is slow but that is because they werent mad to boogy they were made to pull. The moto 4 has an extremly low gear ratio. The only problem ive had was my bearing on my piston went out. I was doing donuts with me and two of my buddies with out oil. It still runns like new. we probally weigh a total 600 pounds. So i would buy the moto.

moto 4's are great quads I still have two that run great without any major work put into them. I recently did the top end on my 87 80cc and it runs perfectly. The 85 250 is still all original although I do need to replace the pipe on it.

Also, do you always need the choke to start yours?
