Default stiff suspension

This past weekend I ventured to little Sahara sate park and had a little trouble on the sand with my suspension. It just shakes the hell out of me when i am going about 30-40 across the sand. What could I do to loosen up the suspension a little, make it softer. I think it would help on the jumps too cause it lands pretty hard

What kind of buggy, quad, bike, pickup or tricycle are you driving?

Lower your spring settings.

You can put Works, Fox or Elka shocks on it. That makes a huge difference if you have $$.

Also, try to shift your weight back on the vehicle so the front end is just dancing on the sand. It gives you more control and stops the bucking.

Add a swing arm, wider axle, and aftermarket shocks.

On the front, take a pair of channel locks and rotate the bottom of the shock such that the spring pre load is reduced. Take it all the way down.

On the rear, you have to turn the two spanner nuts on the top of the shock up. You could also lower your compression damping on the rear by turning the screw on your shock reservior counter clockwise.

The Raptor will fly thru the whoops if you stand up and get your weight to the rear of the quad.

This information is in the owners manual if you have one.

OK I got the front shocks on the lowest setting but, is there some kind special trick or tool to help me do the rear shock. I dont want to mess anything up. Also when is a stiff suspension better than a softer one and vice versa.

I used a big screw driver and a hammer on my rear shocks nuts. Try backing of on your compression damping by turning the screw on the reservior CCW. This helps a lot.

If you are hitting whoops and jumps hard enough to bottom out the suspension, then you need to start stiffening it back up. Otherwise, keep it loose so you use as much suspension travel as possible.

Get some rear 2.5" wheel spacers. This will widen the back by 5 in. It make all the difference in the world for stablilty on the raptor. It will be the best $80 you spend on it.

Good luck!
