Sounds to me like they were trying to unload a Banshee.

Right now, the Raptor 700 looks pretty enticing. It should handle a lot more like your Z than the first generation, plus they weigh about the same as a Z. The YFZ will work just as well, and the 06 models will be a bit kinder/gentler than before. It will still be a stiffer ride then the Rapp, but tolerable if you take some preload out of the shocks.

the 2006 yfz450 is great. it handels great and is WAY more comfortable. i recommand the yfz450 over the 700r if you ride open feilds and dunes. if you ride the trails, the 700r is a great choice. good luck

Thanks for all your comments. They are helpful.

I am leaning towards the YFZ due to handling, quickness and overall feel. My only concern is the suspension being so stiff. For those who have the YFZ, how do you like the suspension being so stiff? Can you soften it up much?

yeah, you can soften it up, but the shocks aren't so "stiff". the have the same kind of preload as the raptor 700r, even better with the front resevoires. i don't know what you mean by "stiff"?

The YFZ seems much stiffer that the Raptor 700. (i.e. firmer ride)

Yamaha softened up the valveing in 06.
I know from experience that the older YFZs are a bit stiff, they are more set up for aggressive riding and motocross.

If you are constantly riding the YFZ hard and revving it out to 12,000 rpm all the time, of course it wont last.
Personally, I think that if you want a nice trail machine, go with the Rappy. If you want something that will dominate at the track and still be fun to mess around on the rest of the time, go YFZ.
