Just got a 2000 2x4 Big Bear that I need to change the oil on, I don't have an service or owners manual yet. What type of oil does this machine require? I have tried to google this, but no luck. I have found yamaha parts lists but no service info. Also is there a oil filter underneath where the remote oil cooler lines hook-up ?

i put 20w50 in my 1995 tomberwolf 250cc

 

I think the owners manual calls out 10w 40, in SG rating. Any motorcycle specific oil is good. You dont want any oil with the star burst, energy conserving label on the container...because it has moly.

 

I use 10w40 Valvoline atv oil, you can use any kind of 10w40 oil for 4 stroke atv or motorcycle, and yes the oil filter is under the oil cooler adapter.

 

i use 10 W 30 yamalube for ATV's,,,its a little more expensive,but i got alot of dough soaked into it

i also replaced the coolant with Blue Ice

 

Yamaha usually reccomends 10w 40 for air cooled motors....its only the water cooled ones that 10w 30 is acceptable, for warm weather.
