the problem is finding an analog tach that works for single cylinder motors. I don't know if it would be possible to rig up a ds650 tach to another quad, the only way to find out would be to get one and mess with it. Any aftermarket tach that was designed for a car only works for 4 cylinders or more, and the digital tachs yamaha sells suck ***, they react so slow that if you are at idle and gun it, the thing will be bouncing off the rev limiter before the tach even realizes the rpm changed.

The analog tachometer can be purchased from JC Whitney. Part number is SW514543T priced at $69.99 plus freight. The catalog lists the tachometer to be 0 – 10,000 rpm but it is really 0 - 8,000 rpm and does not have a visible stop at 8,000 rpm. It will work on 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 & 12 cylinder engines. It can be hooked up to engines that use a distributor and it comes with a spark plug pickup lead for those engines that do not have a distributor. It is 3 3/8 inches in diameter. So far it has been very durable and the quality appears to be very good. It comes with a body clamp but not with a handle bar clamp. One has to fabricate there own mount. The tachometer is 2” deep from the face of the meter to the rear. It can be mounted in a dash that is about 1 ½” deep. Go to jcwhitney.com and paste in the part number. Check out picture.

the digital tachs from Yamaha don't work. I have one, worked find on the rappy, doesn't work on YFZ [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif[/img]

It should work fine, but my only concern would be how long would it last? I doubt it's waterproof, and it's probably not built tough enough for all the vibrations and bouncing around an atv does. Just something to keep in mind.

But it's on the ATV accessories section. I think that it should be able to take on all the vibrations and bouncing of an atv.

I just looked through the atv section and I sure can't find the tach in there, are you sure that's where you found it?

I typed in the item number ZX514544A into the SEARCH button in the upper left hand corner. When it comes up, on the top of the list the word ATV is highlighted.
