2005 Kodiak 450 HELP
#1
My 05 kodiak 450 has 21 hours, it has not been abused and occasionally gets a little dirty...( I know it needs to get alot dirty )..Love the machine, I tested the 4wd limited slip, and the full Differental lock, worked fantastic, Again I rarely use 4wd. Recently Was out riding and tried it out again, engaed the limited slip, Yellow Button. No problem..STOPPED, engaged full Differential lock, Red button, and when I began to accelerate it sputtered 3 times like it was running out of fuel and then it was fine, tried same thing a few days later to see if it was a fluke, and did the exact same thing, evn down to 3 sputters, after this happens the initial time you can take it in and out of 4wd and you get no " sputter "
Of course the warranty expired a month ago.
Thanks for any advice

Humm now if you go fast enouf in locked mode or reverse you will hit a cutoff point that makes the machine sput and spudder. When I first got mine I thought it was broke and this was normal. Try to hit the overide button before you give it gas and see if it still does it or not. Maybe something with the CDI? I think that is what controls the cutoff.

was the diff-lock idicator light still blinking? It won't go very fast until the diff is locked in. Mine did the same thing I pshed the button and gave it gas before the diff was actually locked in and it did the same thing you are describing.

Its just a safety override, so don't worry about it. A rev limiter kicks in if you have pushed the diff lock button and the diff hasn't locked yet, because it doesn't want to have the locker engage while you're giving it a lot of throttle.

pacino, mine does the same thing. There is no real problem, It's just that the diff-lock gears were not fully engaged. Getting it back out of diff-lock is also a little tricky. It seems that you have to turn the wheel to the left and be fully stop before it will disengage. Once you learn how it wants to operate then it's a breeze!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks to everyone who replied to my question
tried it out and you are all correct the differential had not fully engaged yet, like I said I never use it much so guess I never noticed it the one time I tried it out when it was new.
Thanks
Will be posting another Q. About wheels Look forward hearing from you all.
