Raptor timing?
#1
I posted before about a friends Raptor not starting with the starter but will run when towed. How do you time it without using a timing light like the manual shows?
If the timing was off would it not have any spark at all?

I guess he was talking about cam timing. He says when he is at TDC both exhaust valves are open a little and he has to go 1/4 turn to close them. Is this right?
He was asking how to time the marks on the cams with the crank mark.

Will it start up after it's been run for a while? Or do you mean it will only run while being towed?

Will not start using starter, not even a spark. You tow it and it will start and run good as long as you keep high rpm, slow down the rpm and it quits like your turn off the key and then you have to tow it again. He just called and said the cam timing looks ok.
How do you check the stator? The repair manual shows 3 or 4 different ones.

I don't think a tight valve would cause no spark? When he pulls the plug and lays it against the motor and uses the starter there is no spark. Put the plug in and tow it and it will run fine until the rpms get down toward idle and it dies like you turn the key off.

Changed out coil with another raptor, used battery boost, checked all cables and grounds, and today we unplugged the two connectors coming from the stator and using a test light tried every one of the 7 connections while cranking and no light. So can I assume the stator is bad?
