today recently i made some trails in the woods real close by my house well anyway this was my second time riding there. Some guy came down and told me to leave. He asked me how long ive been in my town and where i live and that he hunts there. I left and said sorry but anyway i geuss i wanted to say newjersey sucks for riding because where i live theres nowhere within 20 minutes where i can even take a slow ride just to get out. Does this happen to other people alot. Any good stories about it i get shooken up by things like this.

I'd find out who actually owns the land. If it is a protected wetland you're pretty lucky some tree hugger didn't catch you. It may be that he's duck hunting, and those shotgun loads don't travel very far. Depending on local law he may be perfectly legal to hunt there. As far as a hunter seeking permission, around here if it aint posted you can hunt there until somebody tells you not to. The ethical thing to do is seek landowner permission first. We that hunt as well as ride know that we face some of the same struggles in both departments. Land getting shut down, opposition from people who have no clue, and tree huggers making up total bs to try and sway public opinion.
If the land is owned privately, ask the land owner for permission. The worst that will happen is he'll say no, and you said you were looking for other riding areas anyway.

Blazing trails on someone else's property can cost you. For every tree you cut down the potential lumber value could be $1000-2000. I have seen people around my area being prosecuted for trespassing and making trails. The court held them responsible for paying the owners for their lumber losses. They had to pay $1200 for every sapling, and small tree they cut down. If you cut down 20-30 or 50 small trees making your trail....that could add up!
