Default 2002 Yamaha Grizzly only runs in low gear

Hello everyone, I am new to the forum. I hope this is enough information.
I went on an ATV trail through a five-foot mud puddle. The engine stall, got winch out.
Crank engine-up when through again, no stall. Continues to ride notice ATV would not exceed 25 mph. Came home clean engine and all parts. Now I am looking for help. Engine runs fine. It appears to have problem with transmission changing to higher gear. It stays in low gear and will not shift or run pass 25 mph.

Thanks

Lovemaker

The weights in the primary clutch are dirty or dry. Youll need to relube them.

MY dealer says that the only grease you should use is Grizzly grease from Yamaha. Here is a web site that has the instructions for the job. I have not needed to do this yet but it looks pretty easy. Just click on the word text and start with Technical pages.

its not hard to do, if you have an impact. a parts cleaner is nice to have to get all the crap out of the clutch. if not, take your time to get it spotless. then get grizzly grease, and add around 1 tablespeen on each bearing( 4 of them) put the clutch back together, and make sure one of the bearings dont slip out of place, or turn sideways. i hold mine together, then slide it on, while putting the belt over it. use the impact to specs, and reinstall the cover. watch the bolts on the cover. they break real easy, and it only requires around17 ft lbs of tourke to tighten. oh, and all the philips head screws to remove the plate on the cluth. they suck. strip real easy, and can be a pain. i just use a vise grip on anyone that does not come out easy. you canreplace them with allen heads if you arent happy with the vice grips. i have no problem using vice grips every time, lol. first time doing it, including cleaning, should take just over an hour. after that, i got it down to under 1/2 hour, including the floorboards, clutch cleaning, everything.

It used to be called grizzly grease, and now its called ultramatic grease. Any yamaha dealer will have it. It runs about 17 bucks a tub (one pound). Youll need to use 1/2 of the tub for the job. Dont skimp on it, or youll be redoing it.
Ive have good luck with amsoil synthetic marine grease. Its much cheaper, and seems to work as well.
You can also go to texmudders site and nyrocs site for how tos.
