I am getting my piston replaced and valve work done..they are saying 450-500 bucks. I know do it yourself. but that isn't an option. Does this sound about right? I thinking it is close

Figure a piston and rings at 150-250 depending on what type. Bore/hone usually runs up to 50 bucks, gaskets are another 30. Valve work is pretty vague, if they are just adjusting them I'd just do it myself but it shouldnt cost more than 1/2 hour of billable time. If its more than it would depend on what kind of work they're doing.

I replaced my piston with a high compression piston, and later adjusted my valves. I am a mechanic for a living and it took me about 3.5 hrs total to do the job so if they will do it for 500 then go for it. The biggest reason is you wont get your valves right the first time unless you get really lucky.
