Makes perfect sense for a 2 stroke. A 2 stroke motor can run in reverse. In fact I think that's how most sled reverse systems work. They slow the motor down to nothing then bump them backwards.

When you start a banshee motor it is set up to go forward so in other words if you start the motor in reverse from the way it is supposed to spin then you have reverse in all six gears instead of all 6 in forward

Ok think really hard. The banshee motor was made to spin one way we will say at the crank it spins counterclockwise so with it spinning counterclockwise you move forward so if you made the crank spin clock wise it would spin all the gears the oppisite direction and in simple words you would move backwards. I dont think they have anything out for the banshee that lets you do it but it is one way to get it done. And like Sparky said they do it on the majority of snowmobiles today.

You could go backwards like a bat out of hell, don't know if the gears would handle that as they were designed to spin forward. Plus timing is another thing to consider. I don't know what the timing is set at but if it was say 3 degrees advanced then it would be 3 degrees retarded.
