Default Raptor 660 Clutch

Ok, so here is the deal. My Raptor clutch was fried. A little too much riding and its time to fix it. So I ordered an EBC Kevlar clutch. Got it fast. No problem. I go to put it in....... I had an angry time putting it in, but thats another story. So after lots of pain and disgust, I put it back together. I go to put the case back on and I have a terrible time getting it to line up so that the clutch lever shows resistance. But I finally think I got it where I want it....... I think...... I throw in some oil and water and start riding. It moves and functions properly. It is slipping terribly, but I thought hey its new, no big deal. I ride it for like an hour. It wont shift and the clutch slips like its made of cheese. Something is wrong. So I think, well I will tighten it according to the adjuster. It gets worse. I don't get it. So it wont shift, like the clutch wont engage, and then it slips like the clutch wont let go. My Banshee was so much easier than this. So help me out guys. Tell me the secrets of replacing the clutch on a Raptor or describe my problem, cause now I gotta take it apart again and I dont wanna have to do it a 3rd time. Thanks Guys. Ride Hard

Sounds like the clutch was over-adjusted...was there freeplay at the lever?
Are the alignment dots on the clutch shaft correct?
This time lift the quad on its side(you won't loose all that oil)
When pushing the side cover on the worm gear moves the shaft and causes the alignment to change...so make sure the dots lign up after the cover is in place

Oh well there ya go. That shows how good I am. LOL I didn't know about the dots on the shaft. I knew about lining up the clutch on the inside. I thought that seemed kind of wierd. So explain to me the allignment on the clutch shaft. Oh and turning the machine on its side is genious. Thanks

Look at the side case...there is a dot right where the shaft enters the case...the shaft itself also has a dot...these two dots need to lign up when the side cover is on...try it the first time without the gasket or any Yamabond so you see how it works...once you figure out how to line it all up put the gasket on and bolt it back together.

Did you soak the plates before you installed the clutch? If you didnt, you also have a problem there. I havent heard good things about the ebc kit, if you fried this one, go with a GYT-R.

yeah, I've heard horror stories about the kevlar separating from the plates and clogging oil ports.

the gytr is proven and also performance oriented. not just a stock replacement.

Yeah, I think kevlar is a no-no for 4 strokes. Ive got the GYTR and couldnt be happier.

A visit to the Bomb forum will provide any reader with sufficient information to avoid Kevlar clutches. Of course this is only for wet clutch 4 strokes, not for machines like the 450R with separate clutch and engine oil systems. EBC's dirt digger cork clutch plates are fine and work well for the average rider. The GYTR is still the preferred kit and of course there is always the 6 spring hinson for those making real power.

Make sure you go to the "guides" tab and select "transmission" everything you needs to know.
