7 miles isn't that far. Nothing is 100% reliable all the time, engines break, drive train can break, tires go flat, etc.. Thats just the nature of the sport, you need to be prepared for anything that can happen. But as far as reliability goes on the 700 yes it is more than reliable enough to travel 7 miles without a problem.

I have taken my Raptor and 400ex on 100+ mile day trips and didn't give it a second thought. Sure I rode back on a dead flat once and almost hit a deer in the process. I have been pretty impressed with the reliability.

Well, first of all dont ever do that alone. I wouldnt, because what if something DID happen. (and it was late in the evening, or something like that)
Just dont go on adventure rides alone.
But 7 miles, or 14, or 20, or 50!? Cmon man, I ride my 8 year old banshee and 12 year old KX500 through tanks and tanks and tanks of gas and never have problems with them. (thousands of miles of exploring glamis/dumont and racing the hill!) I maintain them and I never have any problems with them, EVER.
A brand new machine with normal maintenance should run for months and months (or years and years) without any problems at all, as long as you dont beat on the machine.
Just dont do that ride alone. Anything can happen, such as you crashing and getting hurt, ect.

When you are riding to a gravel pit like that you should be more concerned about getting hurt than wheter the quad will make it. 7 miles is nothin to walk if you break down, but it's a long ways when you have to get home with a dislocated shoulder or something. I'm speaking from experience.
Either take someone with you or at least let someone know where you're going.
