Doesnt matter which ring you put on top or bottom, just remember the writing (if there is any) faces up.

yes if you do it wrong your bike will not run, you need a manual, the top ring has a different angle at which it meets the cylinder than the bottom ring.

Yeah......I was thinking on my new wiseco(maybe they changed something on wiseco's)....but mine were different colors too, and the instructions that came with the piston, told me which went on top. Also, the rings have a little "dent" or circle on them.....and that goes up.

I just put new wiseco rings on my wiseco raptor piston 2 weeks ago, both rings were essentially the same and no instructions were included on which to put on top. This was my 3rd wiseco re-ring so I've done it a few times. Now if someone is shipping out some different product then I guess I dont have any input.

I agree maddog....I've done it twice. I don't really think it matters which goes on top, however they do tell which one in the instructions(if you get them). I think mainly as long as the ring gaps are right, and aren't aligned you'll be fine.

Just call and find out Wiseco Technical Assistance 1-440-951-6600.

/thread

edit: By the looks of their ring catalog, it looks like they do have a certain order.."Top ring" and "2nd ring."

Their 2005 catalog lists the wrong type of rings for the yamaha raptor oem and wiseco pistons, so I wouldnt rely on it too much.

$hit, your kidding right? I ordered the ring kit a month ago, cant remember the part number. Would you happen to have the # for the CORRECT ring kit?

Found the ring set part # 3937XH, thats for a std bore 11:1

The proper ring type for the wiseco 11:1 raptor piston is XS, not XH as indicated in by the 2005 catalog. Earlier catalogs will reflect the correct type. Check the top of your piston, if its stamped with "XH" then you're ok, but all of the wisecos I've seen (including mine) have "XS" on the head. I got the same XH rings shipped to me, the oil insert wont fit, they are the wrong design and the wrong size. The upper and lower rings were fine though. Like I said, check the top of your piston before you try to install anything.
