Yamaha RECALL
#1
Got mine in the mail yesterday. Sounds like everything but the Grizzly is being recalled. I didn't have much time to read all the way through, but sounds like there might be a pinch on the rubber boot that covers the CV joint. Does any one know more ? Is it possible to inspect myself instead of drving 100 miles just so someone can say yours looks fine, or is it going to be replaced no matter what? Your thought please.
They should have recalled it cause this rear brake noise is driving me crazy!!

If they sent you a letter, I would bring it in. Sounds like there is some sort of updated tie rod end they are using.
This summer, my girlfriends 450 had a tie rod fall apart on the trail 20 miles from the truck (lucky we weren't traveling more than 10mph when it broke) good thing we had zip ties and electrical tape with us to limp it back. Took it in under warranty, stupid $#%&$# service guy tried telling me that she most certainly had to have hit a tree or rock for that to happen, they never just come apart, so it probably wont be coveres. I got pretty pissed at the guy and had a few choice words with the him about how I was behind her the entire trip and she never hit anything and about how dangerous the tie rods are just to fall apart like that, they could seriously hurt someone. And what do you know, the boot was ripped. I would like to go and laugh in the guys face now with that recall.

For everyone's benefit, I'm typing the exact models effected with this recall per the notice I received directly from Yamaha Customer Support Group. Taken directly from the notice;
"Dear Yamaha Owner: This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the Consumer Product Safety Act. Yamaha Motor Corporation, USA has decided that a defect which relates to vehicle safety may exist in certain 2005 and 2006-model;
Bruin 250 (YFM250BT and BV)
Bruin 350 2WD (YFM350BAT and BAV)
Bruin 350 4WD (YFM350FAT/FAHT and FAV/FAVT)
Big Bear 400 (YFM400FT and FV)
Kodiak 400 (YFM400FAT/FAHT and FAV/FAHV)
Kodiak 450 (YFM450FAT/FAHT/FASET and FAV/FAHV)
and in certain 2006-model Wolverine 450 (YFM450FXV) ATVs.
The reason for this recall: In affected ATVs, the protectvie boots covering the steering system's tie-rod ends (universal joints) could be pinched during installation or adjustment, cutting a hole in the rubber. If this occurs, grease could escape from and contaminants such as sand or mud could get into the assemby through the hole, causing accelerated wear. This could result in abnormal sterring free play. If the ATV continues to be operated without repair, there is the potential that the ball and socket portion of the tie-rod end could wear to the point that they separate, resulting in loss of steering control which could cause a vehicle crash with injury or death."
It goes on with what to do, etc. Basically just call your yamaha dealer and go from there.
