I never thought about him cracking the tank and now that you bring that up I do remember in the past other owners having this problem.
If he could find a self tapping bolt and at cost of no more than five dollars it might be worth a try and the aluminum would be easy to twist through.

got no thread taps in your shop if its alummin then just thread up to the next size and install the proper bolt . i personley do not like useing self tapping stuff when it comes to stuff like this maybe some sheet metal on a side of building but not high qualty quads naw do it right the first time . if you have never used taps to cut new thread s its easy as easy as self tapping and self tappign might just make things wores if nothing eles its slopy way to do it u might go in at an angle and then it will never seat flat against drain plug washer and will probly leak just go out and get a tap and die set standard and metric this way if u have more over muscleing of bolts and stripping issues no problems plus some metal cutting fluid any machining tool supply company will have ever thing u need

I noticed that the drain plug on the engine wasn't getting snug and i didn't have that much pressure. The bolt was straight and i started to tighten and it just seem to spin. By the way it is on my new raptor

Either get a new reservoir or get one of these! http://www.fumotovalve.com/
Just crank the valve in, you will never need to remove it.
